The Story

or: how i learned to stop worrying and love the timeline.

I've edited professionally since 2005.  Along the way I made  promos for MythBusters, Shark Week and Deadliest Catch at Discovery, I got to edit three full episodes a day (yes, a day) for Seeker's news desk.  I  have spent the better part of a decade as lead editor on Google's Cloud Tech YouTube channel, where I also helped shape the look of graphics across Cloud, Android, Chrome and Play, and built the QC process covering 22 channels.

In between: producing and shooting for PCWorld, Macworld and TechHive everywhere from Computex to CES, supervising post teams, and making everyone's audio sound better than it should. I fell in love when I studied Film Editing at the Academy of Art University, and we've been together ever since.

Mr. Fancypants doesn't take himself too seriously. The work is the serious part. The chimps diaper is the honest part. Both are guaranteed to hold up forever.

The post-lead Part

workflow, QC, and the machinery behind the pictures. the part clients actually pay for.

Someone needed to ensure the audio levels across twenty-two YouTube channels were consistently strong. At GDS, that responsibility fell to me. I led the design and oversight of the quality control process, covering audio, color, and formatting, helping Cloud, Android, Chrome, and Play maintain a unified brand presence. Later, at Foundry, I redesigned the post-production workflow for Monday.com, enabling a small team to efficiently manage three separate publications.

These days the machinery includes AI; transcription, selects, cleanup, rough assembly. Every hour it saves on the sorting is an hour I spend on what stays, what goes, and where the cut lands.
